Online Learning Today

Higher education as a whole is becoming more digital as a result Online Learning has also become important in research, recruitment, marketing, and promotion.

Students expect to learn and be taught using the same gadgets that they use daily. Electronics like smartphones, tablets, and computers are popular. Due to this, one may wonder what exactly the impact of online learning on higher education is.

In today’s day and age, universities offering online courses are increasingly considering alternatives to ‘lecture capture’. This concept includes filming lectures from the back of the room and archiving them online. As a result, teachers are thinking about how to create high-quality online courses and keep students engaged. Techniques like including a range of texts and online social interaction are applied.

The digital transformation has an impact on how students are expected to prepare for class. Today, accessing information online is easier than getting a library reading list. Professors might require students to take online courses in addition to traditional classes.

In ‘flipped classroom,’ students prepare for classes and absorb knowledge online. Before attending classes they debate the content taught.

Online Learning During the Pandemic

In March 2020, the coronavirus epidemic drove schools to lock their doors and transfer classes online. This effectively forced all students to become online learners.

Many in the online learning and education technology industries saw the abrupt transition as a watershed moment. Firms like Google observed growing interest in online credential programmes. In addition, online education providers like LinkedIn also witnessed enormous increases in user numbers. Owing to which, traditional learning took a backseat.

Overnight, an entire industry had gained a lot of credibility. To catch up, teachers in classrooms adapted to new technologies. As a result, the K-12 and higher education sectors were considered the fastest-growing. Going online became a means to survive the pandemic. Owing to which these industries developed significantly.

Learning online can be more effective in a number of ways. Specially for people who have access to the correct technology. According to several studies, students who learn online retain 25-60% more content. And those who learn in a classroom retain only 8-10%.

This is primarily due to students’ ability to learn more quickly online. E-learning takes 40-60% less time to learn than traditional classroom learning. This happens because students learn at their own pace. Facilitating the actions of being able to go back and re-read, skip or accelerate through subjects as needed

Orphicy makes a concentrated effort to make the most of online learning. A proper learning structure through online classes is provided. The strategy is to go beyond simply reproducing a physical class/lecture through video capabilities. Leading to utilising a variety of collaboration tools and engagement methods. The tools promote “inclusion, personalisation, and intelligence.”

Flipped Learning Pedagogy

Orphicy emphasises on ‘flipped learning’ pedagogy. The flipped classroom is a type of mixed teaching-learning pedagogy that emphasises student interaction and active learning. Gone are the days of lecturing for long periods of time and simply delivering information/content. The objective is to introduce course materials outside of class, often online. Moreover, in-class activities are re-purposed for diving deeper into the curriculum. As a result, there is particular focus on aspects like:

– knowledge sharing

  • – application-oriented learning
  • – projects
  • – case study analysis
  • – role-play
  • – debates
  • – quizzes
  • – group presentations
  • – assessments

Children learn primarily through their senses. Therefore, it is critical to make learning interesting and effective through the use of technology. Due to massive digitalisation recently, online learning has become a game-changing catalyst. Infact, it won’t be surprising if the whole world turns to solely learning online in the near future.

“Online learning is not the next big thing, it is the now big thing.”
